The Holy Land: Day 6 - Israel 2013: Masada, Ein Gedi, Mt of Olives

Day 6
Day 6 was a late start giving people time to experience the Dead Sea again and also time to enjoy the fancy spa treatments in the Hotel. By the way the food at this hotel (Leonardo) was the best of the entire trip. We left the hotel and traveled a short distance to the fortress of Masada. This fortress is atop a very tall mountain so we had to take cable cars to get there. The story of Masada is quite entertaining; Hollywood has even made a movie of the story. This is the location of one of the major battles between the Jews and Romans after the Jews rebelled against the Romans in the 1^st century. From here we traveled to Ein Gedi a location on the mountains adjacent to the Dead Sea which contains fresh water hot springs. The scenery was beautiful with waterfalls, streams, and tropical vegetation. It was here in Ein Gedi that David hid from Saul. (1 Sam 23:29). Finally we made our journey to Jerusalem. While entering the city, our tour guide Mickey played a soothing song which sang about Jerusalem. I think most everybody was a bit awe struck while we were entering the city to the music, thinking about so many of the events in the Bible that occurred in this city. Our first stop in Jerusalem was at the Mt. of Olives which is in the Arab and Muslim controlled Palestinian territory. The Mt. of Olives is where Jesus gave the disciples the end times discourse and also where Jesus ascended in to Heaven. (Acts 1:9-12) At the top of the Mt. of Olives is a beautiful view of the center of Jerusalem. We took some of our best pictures here. For our final spot of the day, we walked down to the bottom of the Mt. of Olives to the traditional location of the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed in agony to the Father. The modern location, ran by the Italian Catholic Church, has a church facility built on site along with a flower and olive tree filled garden.

La ubicación moderna, corrió por la Iglesia católica italiana, cuenta con un centro de la iglesia construida en el lugar junto con un jardín lleno de flores y árboles de oliva.

Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
