The Holy Land: Day 7 - Israel 2013: Jerusalem, Temple Mount, Mt. Zion, Mt. Moriah, Bethlehem, Herodium

Day 7
We started the day by visiting the Old City of Jerusalem, Mt. Zion, Mt. Moriah, and the edge of the Temple Mount. As I understand The Temple Mount sits on top of Mt. Moriah and the Dome of the Rock Mosque now sits on the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount is the location of where the 1^st and 2^nd temple was built and it is also where Abraham was told to sacrifice Isaac (Gen 22:2 & 2 Chr 3:1.) Several walls surround the ancient city of Jerusalem. Some of the walls are intact from biblical times and other sections were constructed by the Turks in the middle of the 2nd millennium AD. The construction of the Temple was phenomenal. Heavy rocks weighing several tons were cut to precision and moved into position using somewhat primitive tools in comparison to the machinery that engineers use today. Seeing what they were able to construct in ancient times was amazing. We then visited the Golden Gate which was sealed by the Turks during the period of the Ottoman Empire. Both Christian and Jewish history and tradition believe this gate has messianic significance (Ezekiel 44:1-3.) The next stop was in the town of Bethlehem just east of Jerusalem. This is the Birthplace of Christ Jesus (John 7:42.) While in Bethlehem we visited the Church of the nativity which was built in the 4^th century under the rule of Constantine. There were no ruins to see from the days of Christ in Bethlehem, but it was still good to be in the town of his birth. We also did a little shopping at an Arab Christian store where they sold olive tree wood nativity decorations. Our last stop of the day was at Herodium. This was one of Herod’s colossal palaces on top of a mountain less than a half hour drive from Jerusalem. Taking a glance at his palace makes it easy to imagine Herod’s tremendous social and political power. [Fact: Herod was the Roman King of Judea who ordered the massacre of young infant boys in the days of Baby Jesus.]

Comenzamos el día visitando la ciudad vieja de Jerusalén, el monte. Sión, el monte. Moriah, y el borde del Monte del Templo. El Monte del Templo se encuentra en la cima de la monte.
